Six-Word Story, Six Unique Shots: Enhancing Writing Through Multimedia
With this One Best Thing book, teachers are able to expand their classroom walls and check for learning with an authentic, self-published project. In this project, students will use mobile devices to create their own cinematic stories and publish them using a social media platform. The students will be able to work together with their classmates or alone on this. When working with other classmates, the opportunities for personal growth and achievement are endless. Students will be able to learn how to communicate with classmates, create small goals, assign roles, and work together as a team. |
Don Goble is the author of this educational book. He is an award-winning Multimedia Instructor, International speaker, and published author from St. Louis, Missouri. The National Journalism Education Association named Don as their Broadcast Adviser of the Year 2015. He instructs two levels of Broadcast Technology coursework, which allows students the opportunity to learn media literacy lessons through the creation of their own media projects. Student's in Don's classes learn how to produce video news stories, documentaries, mobile journalism, TV studio operations, online media, digital portfolios, commercials, Public Service Announcements, and narrative films. In the video to the right, Don explains his philosophy of teaching.

I really liked this book; I personally think that this project is a great way to access students in a not-so "test-like" way. With assessments, students are often faced with anxiety leading up to it. By having students read this book, they are able to look at the examples to create something cool and creative that still assesses what they learned. What is nice about this book, is that it is easy to use within a lesson as a guide for students and show examples. A majority of students learn best where they can see examples and guidelines. If a teacher were to incorporate this within their classroom, I would suggest making this not too long of a project; this is meant to be quick, simple, and easy. I also agree with the review of the book from the picture shown below. I would love to try this book and assignment within my own classroom. I believe that students will be able to retain this information longer because they are creating this with their own creativity. I want my students to succeed, and I believe this book can help them do that.
Accessing this book was easily doable. I liked how the pages were simple to glide through. The text is in a nice font and easy to read where the colors were contrasted on the page nicely. I think that this is designed to have students be able to read the text as well. It's difficult to try and read a book that has tons of different kinds of fonts and colors. The layout of the pages are pleasing too because of the little text and bullet points. This book provides videos for students and teachers to view, that is nice due to all the different types of learning behaviors that children use. All of the information and technology that is needed to create this project is written down step-by-step. I like how this book provided with other students examples of the final project.

After reading and going through the book myself, I decided to look on YouTube to see if any of these assignments are accessible. I was lucky enough to find some, here are some of my favorites that I found. Here is the Channel I found them on.
